Origins
INSPIRATION
SlateWeight is a company founded by Josh Slater in Fall of 2019. Josh decided to create the SlateWeight after interning for a Plastic Injection Mold Manufacturer for the summer.
Slater first came up with the idea for SlateWeight when he was working in the “Box Build” department (preparing the mold for the mold makers). He would use a tool called a “Lead- beater” to slam large steel pins into the mold. Slater found that the physical activity was more effective than some of the workouts he had been doing.
After that, Slater thought about ways it could be efficient for other exercises. It took him by surprise when he recognized that the “Lead-beater” felt more comfortable than other traditional strength training equipment that he had used throughout his 10 years of experience lifting. As he started with curls, moved to presses, and ended with some swings, Slater knew that he was onto something.
After modifying the product to include centered adjustable weight and specialized ergonomic grips, Slater filed patents on both the design and function; cementing his dream to be a future leader in the fitness industry.
